Every June, I used to think something was “wrong” with me. My digestion felt different, my sleep changed, my emotions sharpened, and my usual routines suddenly stopped working. It took me years — and a lot of self‑tracking — to realize: Nothing was wrong. Summer was simply pulling my Vikriti in a new direction.

Once I understood that, everything clicked. My Prakriti didn’t change. My environment did.

Why Summer Actually Changes Us

Modern research quietly supports what Ayurveda has said for thousands of years: summer changes human behavior and physiology.

  • Start with a bit cold (not freeze-cold) water prior to having my morning tea
  • Add cool flavors and spices in my tea (cardamom – my favorite)
  • Minimize hot spices in my meals, especially in dinner
  • Instead of reaching out for ice creams, I keep cold (1%) milk around to calm stomach acid
  • Use thick cotton hats, scarf and summer shrug – to keep external heat away if walking out in hot temperatures
  • Cucumber mint dip (raita) is my go-to condiment in summer (it works like a magic)
  • Bottle gourd is another wonder vegetable to use in summer
